Second Year - Mortal Engines
The final project of my second year of uni was to choose a setting from the book Mortal Engines by Philip Reeve, and design the set, as if it was for a feature film. The idea behind this was to give us a bit of practice for designing for our final major project in third year.

I chose to design the set of Airhaven; a city like any other in the book. Airhaven is a floating city, used especially by the pilots and aircraftsmen and women of the world.

My vision for Airhaven was that it was all built from lightweight metal, giving it the believabilty that it would fly. Everything is either shiny silver or copper. The overall shape of Airhaven was based on large cog, with a sot of "town square" in the centre. The city itself is held up by hot air balloons and such, as described in the book.

A feature that I added was the opaque tower blocks- full of whirring cogs and the like- which would most likely be created by CGI.

I decided to hand draw my tech drawings for this project, as I decided that this was what I need most practice in. Unfortunately, I seem to have lost the copy of my drawings with measurements and construction notes on, however, I am still proud of my drawings.

I took an art deco style for my buildings, and it was important for them all to look different.
